Artist's Statement:
I try to be fearless when it comes to painting or trying new techniques. I work in several media, primarily watercolor and paint a variety of subjects… whatever piques my interest, especially nature. I work both representational and abstract although many people think of me as a floral or landscape artist.
The act of creating art with various media and approaches has always been of primary importance to me. Although I look at actual objects, paint plein-aire or use photographs that I have taken personally, I use them for observation only and try to paint my emotional response to the subject to develop meaningful imagery.
I want my paintings to be joyful, beautiful, uplifting, passionate and sometimes mysterious. I try to funnel all of my energy and painting decisions into that goal of how I can portray my love of life and color.
My paintings are alive with deep, rich color, detail, strong contrast and juicy brushstrokes. I want them complex, so that they seem to have many depths of layers retreating back into space.
